Guide to Socibot and Socibot Mini

This wiki serves as a guide to both Socibot and Socibot-Mini. Although much of their software architecture and functional operation is the same, there are some differences between the two models, which can be seen chiefly in the hardware layout and the expected applications. Both robots have an on-board CPU that runs on Ubuntu Linux; the standard model comes with in-built hi-def headcam and an internally projective face. A chest-mounted IR depth sensor and stereo camera give additional visual information. The head is mounted on a 3DoF motor-driven articulated neck which give a human-appropriate range of head gestures.

Socibot full-sized kiosk installation

The full-size Socibot kiosk installation is primarily suitable for tasks such as information delivery in public venues, or anywhere requiring non-expert human interaction, such as schools or reception areas. It comes with a touchscreen embedded on a front-facing kiosk, has (non-functional) arms to enhance its human-like appearance, and a 1.2m base which serves to raise the robot to eye level.

Socibot-mini desktop robot

Socibot-Mini is a more compact robot. The on-board sensors and hardware are identical to the larger SociBot, however they have been given a more compact shell, without a stand or an in-built touchscreen. This robot is perfect for desktop operation, for example in a lab or office environment. More access ports have been added, to allow you to connect your own hardware and interface devices.

Where necessary, robot-specific information can be found under separate subheadings in the main links menu to the left; however unless otherwise noted, the guides in this wiki are pertinent for both SociBot and SociBot-Mini.
